The Schengen Area comprises 25 European countries and guarantees free movement within an area with 42 673 km of sea and 7 721 km of land borders and home to more than 400 million citizens. It includes 22 EU member states: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden. And three associated countries: Norway, Iceland and Switzerland.
